DESIGN MEETS BIG CINEMA

When big pictures are created, every detail counts. For his new film "The End," director Joshua Oppenheimer—a two-time Oscar nominee and multiple award winner—relyed on Steinberg's design expertise for the bathroom furnishings.

The film is a visually stunning homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood—staged with iconic imagery, visual sophistication, and meticulous attention to detail. Amidst this finely composed backdrop: a bathroom equipped with fixtures that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the film and complete it in design.

“We were asked because in a production like this, nothing is left to chance – not even the language of the materials and the design,” says Johannes Löhnert, Managing Director of Steinberg, who was personally on set to accompany the staging of the products.

The design is taken from the Series 350 vintage collection – formally reduced, precisely crafted, subtly nostalgic. The fittings don't appear casually, but rather in key scenes – where light, space, and body condense cinematically. A design with a strong creative presence – yet without being intrusive, seamlessly fitting into the narrative concept.

"We were invited to the premiere and were impressed by Tilda Swinton's intensity—especially in the scenes where she was seen next to our fixtures for minutes on end. Experiencing how naturally our design fit into this visual language was a special moment. Being part of this extraordinary production—and working alongside a house like CHANEL, which designed the costumes—was a special honor. I consider seeing our fixtures in this production a testament to our design expertise."

With “The End,” Steinberg proves that good design not only shapes spaces – but tells stories.

Production title: The End
Director: Director Joshua Oppenheimer

The End
is a Golden Age musical about the last human family surviving in a luxurious bunker, two decades after a climate catastrophe rendered the planet virtually uninhabitable. It features a mother, a father, and their twenty-year-old son, who was born in the bunker and has never seen the outside world. The mother has invited a childhood friend to accompany her as her companion and cook—with whom the son has the only honest relationship of his life. There's also a doctor, a butler, and finally, a young woman who finds her way into the bunker.
